‘Protest beer’ mocking anti-gay legislation in Russia sent to President Vladimir Putin
A new “protest beer” said to mock Russia’s notorious anti-gay laws has been sent directly to President Vladimir Putin.
‘Hello My Name is Vladimir’ has been launched as the world’s first protest beer, aimed to mock and criticise Russia’s anti-gay “propaganda” laws.
Crafted by the Aberdeenshire-based BrewDog, the beverage is a double IPA ale containing Limmonick berries, which are an ingredient thought by some Russians to improve sexual performance in men.
The company said half the profits from the sales of the beer would be donated to charities that “represent oppressed minorities around the world”.
“We sincerely hope that when Vladimir Putin is tired from a busy day riding horses with his top off, grappling with burly men on the Judo mat or fishing in his Speedos, he reclines on a velvet chaise longue and has one of his handsome helpers wet his whistle with a glass of Hello My Name is Vladimir,” said James Watt, the BrewDog co-founder.
The ale is decorated with Warhol-style portraits of the Russian President himself, wearing lipstick and eyeshadow. Also featured on the label is a message which reads: “Not for gays.”
Mr Watt added: “As Hello My Name is Vladimir is clearly marked ‘not for gays’ we should bypass the legislation outlawing supposed ‘homosexual propaganda’.”
